Tuition

The cost for the program is:

  • $1980 + GST to attend the
    2-day program

  • $1595 + GST to perform surgery under guided mentorship​
    ($495 + GST for observation only on the surgery day)​

Length & Format

Held in person at Canadian Dental Implant Training Centre (1959 152 St, Surrey) with lecture, hands-on workshops, and the opportunity to treat a patient under guided mentorship.

CE Credits & Dates

Participants will receive

12 CE credits upon completion of the course.​

Participants will be introduced to a number of topics including, but not limited to:

  • Wisdom Tooth Extraction Fundamentals – Case selection, radiographic interpretation, and patient communication.

  • Surgical Techniques & Instrumentation – Flap design, sectioning, bone removal, and suturing.

  • Complications & Risk Management – Maxillary vs. mandibular differences, medication protocols, and post-op care.

  • Hands-On Training – Demo surgery as well as an optional participant-led surgery day for practical experience.

Meet Your Course Instructor, Dr. Jonathan Tsang

Dr. Jonathan Tsang attended the University of British Columbia where he studied mathematics before heading to Philadelphia to study at Temple University School of Dentistry.  Upon graduating, Dr. Tsang returned to his home town of Abbotsford to open his dental practice.

Dr. Tsang is also Board Certified of the American Board of Oral Implantology/ Implant Dentistry (ABOI/ID), a designation shared by fewer than 50 dentists in all of Canada.  Certification by the ABOI/ID attests to the fact that Dr. Tsang has demonstrated knowledge, ability, and proficiency in implant dentistry through a rigorous examination process.

Course Overview

This program covers a number of topics over the course of 2 days of instruction [12 CE credits] and will include a live surgery demonstration. Optional 3rd day with opportunity to bring a patient for guided chairside mentorship.

Lecture & Demo Surgery Weekend Overview

  • Patient Assessment & Case Selection

    • Understanding informed consent and patient communication.

    • Reviewing medical history, pharmacology, and sedation considerations.

    • Radiographic interpretation for evaluating tooth position and structure.

    • Identifying cases suitable for extraction vs. referral.

  • Surgical Techniques & Instrumentation

    • Maxillary vs. mandibular wisdom tooth extractions – key differences.

    • Proper incision and flap design for various cases.

    • Correct use of elevators and forceps.

    • Extraction techniques, including sectioning and bone removal.

    • Instrument selection and surgical setup for efficiency.

  • Managing Complications & Risk Mitigation

    • Recognizing and handling common surgical complications.

    • Medication protocols for pain management and infection control.

    • Strategies to stay within your comfort zone while expanding skills safely.

    • Post-operative care, healing expectations, and patient follow-up.

  • Hands-On Training & Practical Experience

    • Live demonstration surgery by an instructor.

    • Hands-on practice with flap design, suturing, and extraction techniques.

    • Discussion on bone grafting for maximum clinical benefit.

    • Participant-led surgery day a few weeks later under mentorship.

Guided Surgery Day Overview

A few weeks after the initial training, participants have the opportunity to perform wisdom tooth extractions on live patients under expert mentorship. Each mentor will oversee only two cases—one in the morning and one in the afternoon—to ensure focused guidance and individualized instruction. This hands-on experience allows participants to apply their learned techniques in a real clinical setting while receiving direct feedback and support.

Participation Options & Fees:

  • Treating Dentist: $1,595 – Bring your own patient and perform an extraction under faculty supervision.

  • Observer: $495 – Attend the session to watch live surgeries, gain insights, and engage in case discussions.

​

Case Submission Requirements:

  • Participants must submit their patient case for approval at least two weeks in advance.

  • Each case will be evaluated to ensure it aligns with the participant’s skill level and course objectives.

 

This structured mentorship ensures a safe, educational, and confidence-building experience for all participants.
